PONTEFRACT IN 1940

28th June 1940
More All-in-Wrestling at Pontefract for War Effort

The committee of the Pontefract War Appeal staged a second all-in-wrestling tournament in the Assembly Rooms, Pontefract, on Friday, and the popularity of the venture was confirmed by a large civilian audience, which showed its appreciation of the fare.

There were four bouts, and Mr. A.S. Dobson, the Rugby League referee, who is also the secretary of the War Appeal Committee, made a competent M.C. The large crowd also appreciated the presence of the band of the I.T.C. of the York and Lancaster Regiment, which, under bandmaster H. Limey, and thanks to the good offices of Lt. Col. H.A.W. Cole -Hamilton, D.S.O., enlivened the proceedings. The proceeds of the effort were for the War Appeal and the York and Lancaster Fund.
