War Worker’s Shopping Problems
A
meeting of representatives of the food trades in Pontefract, convened by
the Ministry of Labour and National Service, was held at the Employment
Exchange, on Monday. It consider complaints received by the Ministry
that some women war workers who live in the town are experiencing
difficulty in obtaining food supplies, which they claim are exhausted
when they reach home from work.
The
meeting was attended by representatives of the Pontefract Chamber of
Trade, the Pontefract and District Grocer’s and it was agreed that the
M.O.L. should help the munitions workers to secure cards from their
employers, and that these be handed to their butcher, baker or other
tradesmen, who would guarantee their share of commodities, with the same
consideration and facilities extended to other customers.
