Sunday
Films For Pontefract
A
new chapter in film entertainment in Pontefract will have begun this
weekend with the introduction of Sunday cinema performances. Some time
ago the Pontefract Corporation obtained Sunday opening powers under the
wartime regulations, but until the Crescent and Alexandra Cinemas were
recently acquired by the Star Cinemas (London), Ltd, none of the local
houses took advantage of the concession. Requests for Sunday
performances have been made by the Military, and the new owners of the
cinemas have decided to give two shows on each Sunday, beginning on
August 9th.
Pageant
and Tattoo
Rehearsals
are in progress nightly at the Castle Grounds, Pontefract, for the
Pageant Youth and Military Tattoo, which is to be held in the Grounds at
the end of the present month. The pageant will show something of the
stirring history of the ancient borough. Pontefract people should be
interested to know that opportunities will be afforded them to play
their own part in it. Arrangements can be made for their inclusion in
the picturesque scenes based on incidents in the life of the Castle, and
trials will be given on any evening to intended actors.
