FOR ACTIVE SERVICE
The
Vicar of All Saint’s Church, Pontefract, the Reverend W. Goldthorpe,
has volunteered for service as a Chaplain with the Army and will
undertake his last duties at the church, for the time being, on
Christmas Day. During his absence, the parish will be in charge of the
Curate, the Reverend R. Stevenson. Mrs. Goldthorpe will remain in
Pontefract.
A
PRISONER OF WAR SERVICE
A
POW service was held at the Pontefract Parish Church on Sunday, at which
there was a good congregation including about 70 relatives of prisoners.
The service was conducted by the Vicar of Pontefract, the Reverend A.P.
Morley. Special prayers were offered and the names were read of all
known prisoners of Pontefract and District. Among those present were the
Mayor and Mayoress of Pontefract, Councillor and Mrs. D. Sainter.
XMAS
BOX FOR RED CROSS
The
Matron and staff of the Pontefract Isolation Hospital at Baghill, have,
by a multiplicity of efforts, raised £15 as a Christmas Box for the Red
Cross Fund. The efforts included competitions, gifts from patients, and
the sale of lavender bags, kettle-holders and pin cushions. The Matron,
Miss Hutchinson, received much welcome help in raising the useful sum.
QUALIFIED
TO FLY
Mr.
and Mrs. J.R. Aaron, of 23, Bond Street, Pontefract, have received news
that their son Dennis, of the R.A.F who has been training at the
American Flying School, at Pensacola, has been awarded his ‘wings’.
He was educated at The King’s School, Pontefract, and was later
employed by C.G. Matthews, accountant, of Pontefract. He celebrated his
19th birthday in the U.S.A.
