PONTEFRACT IN 1944

28 April 1944
SPECIAL SERVICES

The national day of prayer was observed at the Horsefair Methodist Church, Pontefract, on Sunday when there were normal congregations. The preacher in the morning was the Resident Minister, Reverend R.E. Parker, who spoke on the "Church and War Aims".  Special prayers were offered and appropriate hymns sung. In the evening a similar service was conducted by the Reverend G.E. Kemp.  Mr. Howdle was the organist.

St. George's Day was also observed at the Pontefract Parish Church, where there was a parade, which included the Mayor of Pontefract, Councillor F.W. Lane.  The Vicar, Reverend A.P. Morley, conducted the service, and spoke about St. George and the necessity for maintaining the same devotion to discipline in peace as in war.
