UNIVERSITY CRICKETER
G.T. Gardner, the Pontefract cricketer, who has shown
much promise as an opening batsman, was a member of a Leeds University
team which was defeated by Yorkshire County, at Weetwood, on Wednesday.
Yorkshire scored 87 for 7 wickets, and declared; and the University were
dismissed for 49. Gardner was bowled by Smailes before he had scored.
EX-SERVICEMEN
Ex-Servicemen, to the number of about 30, attended a
meeting of the Pontefract Branch of the Yorkshire and Lancaster
Regimental Association, which was held in the Crown and Anchor Hotel,
Pontefract, on Wednesday. Ex-R.Q.M.S. Jamison presided, and was
accompanied by Captain J. Smith as the secretary. It was agreed that a
social evening should be arranged for members and their families. A
domino competition was won by Cpl Lockwood.
