WINNING THE PEACE
Recalling the times when holidays were holy days, the
Vicar of All Saint's, the Rev A.J. Poole, says in the September issue of
the All Saint's Parish Magazine - ''Times have changed. Man no longer
sees life as something centred upon and revolving around God. Man is
selfish in that he is self-centred. I do not merely mean that man is
wanting more and more money for less work; jumping places in the queue;
elbowing the old and infirm out of the way; or taking pride in
black-market deals. These are but the symptoms of a dread disease which
has affected mankind. This self-centredness of man is showing itself in
the idea of thinking Man as being British! has won the war by his
cleverness and strength, and that man, or at least his agents delegated
to attend at Paris, can win peace. Winning the peace is going to begin
in the heart of the individual; by the individual in ever-growing
numbers, living God-directed lives. 'Life' is an entity of itself. It is
the result of the interweaving of the spiritual and the secular. To
attempt to live in terms of the one to the exclusion of the other is
quite impossible..
A FISHING VICTORY
The Pontefract United Angling Club won the Whitham
Trophy at Low Dunsford, near York, on Sunday. Although they had competed
for the trophy for a number of years, this was their first success. The
best catch, nearly 71bs, was made by G.J. Thacker, of the Pontefract
Club.
