Fund Raising
Over
£42 was raised for the National Chidren’s Home and Orphanage by a
house-to-house collection in Pontefract. About
£7 was raised for the funds of the Pontefract Community Centre, at a
jumble sale organised by the ‘Housewife's Choice’.

Coloured
pictures of the Sudan United mission at work were shown at the Newgate
Methodist Mission, Pontefract, on Monday, when Mrs O.C. Good, of London,
paid a special visit. There was a large attendance, presided over by the
Vicar of All Saint’s Church, the Reverend B.C. Garcia. Local
people had special interest in the work of Miss M. Abyss, formerly of
the Pontefract and District Girl’s High School who is at present with
the mission.

Of Supporters
When
the Pontefract branch of the Leeds United Football Club held its annual
dinner and social evening at the Golden Lion, Ferrybridge, on Monday,
the guests included Jim Millburn and J. Scott, the Leeds United
footballers, who received hampers of fruit. The entertainer’s were
Messrs. C. Dewey, R. Lodge and S. Pestfield, of Pontefract.
Mothers
and Violets
After
a Mothering Sunday observance at the All Saint’s Church, Pontefract,
some 274 bunches of violets were distributed by two members of the
Mother’s Union to mothers who attended the service. The service was
conducted by the Reverend B.C. Garcia. The preacher was the Vicar of
Ferrybridge, the Reverend C.H. Branch; the lesson was read by Mrs M.J.
Colley; and a solo was sung by Mrs R. Yates. In the congregation were a
large number of children.
