Supper and Social Evening
The
Next Event to be held by the Pontefract Combined Ex-Services Association
is to be a supper and social evening for the entertainment of the
wounded men at Chapel Allerton Hospital. The decision was made at a
meeting on Friday.
Band
Season
About
1,250 people enjoyed concerts given in the Castle Grounds, Pontefract,
on Sunday, by the 496 Regimental Band, R.A., T.A. The programme included
popular pieces by Romberg, Novello, Jerome Kern and Gilbert and
Sullivan.
Ascension
Day
Ascension
Day was marked at the Pontefract Parish Church yesterday by four
celebrations of Holy Communion at which the Celebrant was the Vicar, the
Rev J. Peel. A children’s service for scholars of the Church of
England day schools in the town also was conducted by the curate, the
Rev J.A. Griffiths.
First
Queen
At
a social evening held at the Pontefract Community Centre, on Wednesday,
thirteen-year-old Maureen Cairns was chosen to be the Community
Association’s first Queen. The choice was by vote and Maureen will be
crowned at the annual garden party, and will reign for a year. Games and
dancing provided the evenings entertainment and supper was served.
