PONTEFRACT IN 1952
27th
June 1952
Moneymakers
A
small but well-attended informal garden party held at Parkside Farm,
Pontefract, the home of Mr. and Mrs Townend, last week, by members of
the Pontefract Parish Church, raised £41 for the work of the Church
overseas. There were bring and buy and sewing stalls and tea was served
by Mrs Townend.
Golden
Wedding
Saved
from drowning in a dyke at Sherburn when he was scarcely old enough to
walk, Mr. G.W. Longfield, of Colonel’s Walk, Pontefract, has lived to
celebrate his golden wedding. He and his wife have spent most of their
married life in Pontefract, where Mr Longfield was in business as a
greengrocer for 38 years. Both are seventy and enjoy reasonable health.
Sports
Films
Yesterday
week, members of the De Lacy Motor Club, of Pontefract, were again
entertained at the Queen’s Hotel by an excellent film show. The films,
all in colour, reviewed motor sport during 1951. Among other interesting
scenes were two which showed the Grand Prix Italia, in which, in its
early days, Mr. Wil-de-Gose, an honorary life member of the club, took
part. Mr. A. Coe, who represented the company providing the films, and
the projectionist, Mr. Pearson, were thanked by Mr. E. Telleck.

awarded a West Riding Music Scholarship, tenable at The Royal Academy of
Music, London, for three years. She is a pupil of Mr. G.H. Howdle,
