Partnership
Mr.
and Mrs Frank Esplay, of King’s Mead, Pontefract, who went to school
together, continued their companionship when they left, and eventually
married, celebrate their golden wedding with a family party tomorrow.
They were married at Smallthorne, and went to live at Pontefract shortly
before the First World War, when Mr. Esplay became employed at the
Prince of Wales Colliery. He volunteered for service on the outbreak of
war, and was in action with the K.O.Y.L.I. Regt. Later he entered the
Civil Service and was with the Ministry of Pensions at Leeds, before
being transferred to the Ministry of Labour, at Pontefract, in 1928.
Mr.
Esplay, who retired in 1947, was secretary of the Pontefract Branch of
the K.O.Y.L.I. Regimental Association for 25 years and President of
Halfpenny Lane Working Men’s Club for six years. Tomorrow his two
sons, five daughters and fourteen grandchildren some of whom will travel
from London, Nottingham and Leeds, will attend the party. The eldest son
is a Flight Lieut, in the R.A.F. and was decorated by the King in 1943
for bravery in action.
