YEAR WAS TO HAVE BEEN ONE OF CELEBRATION
"The
Flood disaster... has cast a despondent atmosphere over a nation’s
spirit in a year which was to have been one of complete
jubilation," declares the Chairman of the Osgoldcross Rural
Council. "Many residents have asked me to open a local fund from
which money can be made available to alleviate the suffering and
distress of the victims, and assist in making good damage caused to
house property, and so to express in tangible form our sympathy with
those affected. I know residents of the Osgoldcross Rural Community will
wish me to act quickly on their behalf, therefore I have opened a fund
and invite everyone to send donations or arrange for collections to me
or the Clerk of the Council at Tanshelf House, Pontefract. I am
convinced that no further words of mine are needed to enlist your help
and most strenuous efforts in support of this most worthy and necessary
appeal."
