Recommended For Mention

Corporal John Metcalfe, of King’s Mead, Pontefract, who is a regular soldier, serving with the Military Police at Singapore, has been recommended for Mention In Dispatches. He is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. S. Metcalfe.

The citation states that he has been responsible for the making and maintenance of thousands of military signs on the island of Singapore, and has worked long hours over and above his normal duties. Promoted to Corporal in March, Corporal Metcalfe joined the Army eighteen months ago. He has also been awarded the Commander in Chiefs certificate.
