The
name is Philip, a right Royal name for the only child to be born at
Pontefract on Coronation Day, 1953, and the proud parents are Mr. and
Mrs. K. Atkinson of Spring Gardens.
Philip,
the town’s somewhat bewildered representative of the start of the new
Elizabethan era, received gifts from the Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor
and Mrs J.E. Morrell, to mark the occasion of his birth. From the Mayor
he received a silver spoon and pusher in a musical box, and from the
Mayoress a silver cup. The presentations were made at a small tea party
given by the Mayoral couple. Among those present were the grandmother
and grandfather of the Coronation baby, Mr. and Mrs. H. Higgins, and the
town clerk, Mr. J.F. Rook. The Mayor said the presentations were
somewhat belated, but it was the first opportunity he had to arrange the
‘get-together’ but better late than never was the general feeling.
