Two
George III sixpences, both minted to 1827, have been found by Mr. A.
Inman, a Pontefract Corporation workman, during demolition and repair
work on two different sites in the town. The first was in debris arising
from the repair of a fireplace at the Presbytery of St Joseph’s
Catholic Church and the second was discovered yesterday (Thursday) in
rubble made by the demolition of old property in Salter Row. Both coins,
though slightly tarnished, show clearly the head of George III and the
date, and are similar in size and appearance to the present sixpenny
piece.
