The
current issue of the W.V.S. Bulletin gives two examples of the Women’s
Voluntary Service. The first occurred when a letter addressed to the
Y.W.C.A. at Pontefract, from a women in London, who wanted accommodation
during a visit to look at the Parish Church register. The letter was
delivered to the W.V.S., which informed her that there was a Y.W.C.A. at
York, gave her the name of a Pontefract hotel and offered to help her in
any way possible. A second letter was from a women in New Zealand who
wished to trace her grandmothers birth from church records. This was
arranged in the afternoon with the verger and she was taken to the
church where the entry was traced. The women was delighted with the help
she had received
