Great North Road blocked
The
culmination of a fortnight of severe weather, snowfall, frost and biting
east winds was a blizzard during Wednesday night and Thursday morning,
when an average of five or six inches of snow fell in local districts.
The wind caused drifts in exposed parts, but no villages were cut off,
although snowplough's were in use in various parts. All the bus services
were operating yesterday morning, but on some routes the buses were
running late. A road blockage at Wentbridge occurred and traffic was
diverted. Some accidents were reported.
