Palms
were blessed and distributed to members of the congregation at a special
Palm Sunday service conducted at the Pontefract Parish Church on Sunday
by the Vicar, the Reverend J. Peel.
Open Day
The
Willow Park Secondary Girl’s School, Pontefract, was open to parents
and friends on Thursday. Work displayed in the form rooms was examined
by the visitors, and there were displays of cookery, art and crafts in
the special subject rooms. Gymnastics and dancing took place in the
Hall.
United
Service
A
large congregation heard a Palm Sunday message given by the Bishop of
Pontefract, Canon G.W. Clarkson, at a United Service held in the
Assembly Rooms. It was arranged by the Mayor, Alderman W.R. Wryder, J.P.
Hearing The
Gospel
Nine
young people from the Central Methodist Church, Pontefract, were among
500 people who went by special train from Leeds to Glasgow on Saturday
to hear the American evangelist Billy Graham address a crowd of over
16,000 in the Kelvin Hall, during the second week of his Scottish
mission.
State
Registered Nurse
Miss
Beryl E. Granger, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs, G.R. Grainger of
Highfield Road, Pontefract, has qualified as a State Registered Nurse. A
former pupil of the Pontefract and District Girl’s High School, she
trained at the Leeds Infirmary where she is now a staff nurse.
