PONTEFRACT IN 1972

8th June 1972
TRUE LOVE NEVER RUNS SMOOTH

The course of true love ne’er runs smooth and the experience of a friend’s nine-year-old bears out this adage. Young Mark met this pretty young miss at school, they were the same age and lived near one another.

Cupid’s arrow winged home, and for a time the world was rosy. Mark forsook his train set and other childish toys and concentrated on his new found love, but one dark day another suitor appeared and stole the heart of Mark’s girl and she left him high and dry as only a women can.

That evening, sensing something was wrong Mark’s mother asked him why he was so unhappy. He told her the whole sorry tale.

"Well, what has he got that you haven’t?" inquired Mark’s mother. "Glasses," our heartbroken hero replied.

It’s a tough life when you have to compete with National Health glasses.
