FALKINGHAM FAMILY HISTORY
I
began subscribing to the Digest magazine in the hope that I would
discover something about the FALKINGHAM family, who had connections with
Pontefract and District.
My
mother-in-law’s Falkingham family were at Hunsingore in the 1600’s.
William Falkingham was born about 1645 and died in 1685. His children
were John (1669), William (1670), Thomas (1674), Richard – my
mother-in-law’s descendant (1682) and Sarah (1683). I am not sure who
William’s wife was but according to information on the Internet it
could be Katherine, though I have no proof.
There
was a John Falkingham at Hunsingore who had children John (1649),
Richard (1654) and Anne (1657). As far as I know, William (1645) could
also have been the son of John but again I have no proof available. This
John was called John of Pomfret, born about 1615-1620? No wonder my
husband loves Pontefract cakes!
According
to the IGI there were a number of John Falkingham’s at Pontefract so I
cannot identify the correct one. Some of these John’s are descendants
of Thomas Falkingham and Lady Janet Hussey (nee Pygot) Thomas was JP for
Liberty of Pontefract in 1583. Their estate was Northall near Leeds and
they were married at Kippax.
Any
information would be greatly appreciated.
