AUTUMN
Once again the strange
lack of enthusiasm in the upper forms has permeated the Club. There was
a good influx of new members from the lower part of the School at the
beginning of the term, and the attendances for the first week or two
were very good. It is to be hoped that matters will be greatly improved
next term. Next January, ‘Qualification Cards’ will be issued. On these
cards will be four tests, namely:-
Application (Bulls Eye Target) counting 50 points
Grouping (Bulls Eye Target) counting 20 points
Grouping (Figure Target) counting 20 points
Quickfiring (Figure Target) counting 10 points
Making a total of 100 points.
The classification will be as follows:-
1st class shot, scoring 80 to 100 points
2nd class shot, scoring 60 to 80 points
3rd class shot, scoring 40 to 60 points
It is hoped that all
members of the Club will enter for these tests.

THE FIVES CLUB
A meeting of the members
of the Fives Club was held on 24th October, and officers were chosen.
Barton, O.S., became vice-captain, France, E.N., secretary, Blueman, E.,
treasurer, and a committee was formed consisting of Hill, R.S., Townsley,
L., and Gledhill, E.I. A doubles tournament was arranged and was won by
Fisher, E.J., and Blueman, E., with a considerable number of points to
the good in the final game. A series of matches, both singles and
doubles, were arranged with Castleford Secondary School but owing to a
misunderstanding the games were cancelled. It is pleasing to see the
interest taken in Fives by the School, and I am sure that further
tournaments will be welcome. With a little more enthusiasm in the Fives
Club itself and a little more money in the cash box, the winners of
tournaments may be presented with medals. But to do this, our funds will
have to be greatly increased so let us ask for a longer roll of members
and a little more enthusiasm.
E.J. FISHER, Captain, Form VI.
THE BADMINTON CLUB
The Badminton Club is not
getting the support it deserves. New rackets have been purchased so we
hope to enrol several new members next term. We would also like members
to pay their subscriptions early. A tournament will be played next term;
all intending to compete should hand in their names to the secretary as
soon as possible.

THE SWIMMING CLUB
On July 20th the House
Competition Gala was held. There were several events, each one counting
so many points for the Houses of the winning boys. To give the younger
boys a chance, there were junior and senior events, the former not
counting so many points as the latter. The Gala was carried out under
the able supervision of Mr. Rogers, and the whole School witnessed the
proceedings. When the points were added up it was found that:-
The King Edward House was top with 10 points;
The Lyon House was second with 9 points; and
The Atkinson House was third with 5 points.
The Pontefract Ladies’
Annual Gala was held on Sept 25th, the King’s School Boys taking a
prominent part in it, for out of the six events open to them they won
four first, four second and one third prize. The results were as
follows:-
25 yds. Schoolboys Novice Handicap; 1st S. Benson
50 yds. King’s School Handicap; 1st G.B. Butler; 2nd E.I.
Gledhill; 3rd A.L. James.
25 yds. Boat Race: 1st team King’s School ‘A’ – H.R. Wilkinson,
G.B. Butler, A. Piper. 2nd Team, King’s School ‘B’ – E.I. Gledhill, A.L
Taylor, J.W. Hey.
Obstacle Race: 1st C.A. Horwell, 2nd J.W. Hey.

25 yds. Balloon Race: 1st G.B. Butler, 2nd H.R. Wilkinson, 3rd
E.I. Gledhill.
At the last gala of the
season held by the P.A.S.C., the much coveted trophy, the Handel Booth
Shield, was won by us by a good margin in the final against the St.
Joseph’s ‘A’ Team. This is the seventh time we have come off victors.
Our Team was: - A.L Taylor (captain), A.L. James, and H.R. Wilkinson.
J.W. HEY, Form 1VA.
