LATEST UPDATE
The Pontefract website remains basic by design compared
to present day standards but it's now more search engine friendly and
you will discover it is much easier to find what you are looking for.
Over the past couple of weeks the majority of pages have now been
redesigned and adapted to conform and validate to general website
standards. A lot of redundant code has been removed making it easier for
search engines to index even more pages and so using the search boxes in
the heading of each page should produce better results. This will
improve further over the coming weeks.
I was amazed by the amount of code I was able to discard from some of
the pages while still retaining the same appearance as before.
Commercial programs may simplify the process of compiling web pages but
they do go about it in a strange way. I don't know a great deal
about HTML but I'm learning, and it's my aim to compile all pages that
validate correctly which can only benefit the site in the long term.
The Pontefract site is all about presenting information and there
really is no need for any fancy graphics which is just as well because I
am no designer as you may have already noticed. There are now only a
small number of pages in need of updating to the new design and I can
then begin adding new content - and photographs will be high on my list
of priorities. Several hundred are available and it's a matter of
choosing which ones would be of most interest.
I'm not about to apologise for the number of advertisements featured
on the Pontefract website because they are what enable me to keep the
website going but they have been grouped together in a way that doesn't
greatly reduce the amount of space available for publishing information.
A lot of space was wasted previously by having it spread across the
width of the page and so I am now making better use of the available
space while retaining an area for advertisements that might be of
related interest to visitors. Your support of the advertisers
featured throughout this website also generates revenue to help support
the continued availability of the Pontefract website. It's also
worth remembering that visiting a site such as Amazon through one of the
links on our site means that any purchase you make on the Amazon site
will generate a small amount of commission for us - regardless of what
you purchase - it doesn't have to be a product featured on one of our
website advertisements.
If you have any comments or suggestions (wouldn't that be a first!) I
would be pleased to hear from you but it's not mandatory (phew! eh?) so
do enjoy the website anyway and if you do have anything that might be of
interest and would compliment the content currently featured on the
website get in touch. You can contact me at
