NORTHGATE SENIOR BOYS SCHOOL
ADDED 28 JANUARY 2006
I
have very fond memories of the Pontefract Northgate Senior Boys School and remember
the 1951 school trip to the HMS Hermes and the onboard exhibition to
commemorate the 1951 Festival of Britain. Unfortunately,
I am unable to identify anyone on the photograph depicted in your school
gallery. I believe there were a series of visits for the various forms.
Also
in the same year there was a weekend trip to Edinburgh where we visited
Edinburgh Castle, Hollyrood House, The Forth Bridge (the original as the
new one hadn't been built at that time), and went on a shopping trip
down Princess Street.
Northgate Senior Boys Trip to Edinburgh 1951
I
enclose the above photograph taken on the trip and can identify from the
left front: Michael Hiorns, standing behind him is Alan Siddall and the
Headmaster Mr. Rumble. The other boys I cannot recall but would
appreciate help from any readers who may be able to identify them.
I
was also very interested to see the 1943 Staff photograph of Pontefract
Boys School and although I began my secondary education at the school in
1950, I remember with great affection Mr. Wilkinson and Mr. Smith.
With
reference to the photograph of the Willow Park Senior Girls School, I
can identify Margaret Dales (6th from the right on the back row), who
was later to become my wife and qualified as a nurse at Pinderfields
Hospital. She went on to become a District Nursing Tutor in the Garforth
area and later a Health Visitor in Featherstone.
