FIRST WORLD WAR ZEPPELIN RAID
ADDED 27 MARCH 2006
I
bought the Digest magazine for my mum who had her 90th birthday last
year. She was very interested in the story about the Zeppelin raid on
Pontefract during the First World War.
She
told me she was only 15 months old and living at Woodland View, Purston
when she remembered being wrapped in a shawl and passed over the garden
wall to a neighbour who had a cellar.
She
later found out that the bomb dropped behind the house never failed to
explode because the farmer had recently ploughed his field and as it was
very muddy the bomb sank deep into the mud.
