MARTIN'S BANK PONTEFRACT
ADDED 21 OCTOBER 2006
Thanks
for this months issue of The Digest - Pontefract edition. My wife
complains that she can’t get any sense out of me until I’ve read it from
cover to cover!
I see
from your editorial that some people are a little disgruntled about the
price increase. I could never understand how you managed to keep the
price to £1.00 considering the quality of the paper etc… Keep up the
good work - I can’t wait for the next issue.
The
article about Martins bank, reminded me of an occasion when my mother,
who used to go to martins every Saturday morning to deposit cheques etc.
for the business of J. Hardcastle & Sons, haulage contractors of
Tanshelf, was unable to go one Saturday to deposit and collect cash for
the drivers wages.
My Dad,
who was usually working, had to go, but the counter staff didn’t know
him and refused to pay, so they had to fetch the manager to verify who
he was! It tickled my dad’s sense of humour and he often referred back
to it!
