East of Pontefract Monkhill

THE LANCASHIRE & YORKSHIRE LINES

Although on a different date, the time of day in this picture is the same as that in the previous one – about 2.30pm on a Saturday afternoon. On this occasion I had taken up position roughly on the Ferrybridge Road bridge to photograph the approaching Goole-Leeds train passing a Goole W.D. (i.e ex War Department) locomotive which is waiting to drop back into the down sidings to pick up a coal train for Goole (the same working as in the previous picture). The locomotive on the passenger train is a Hull-based Ivatt Class 4MT 2-6-0 which was probably covering for the non-availability of the Goole engine normally rostered for this turn.
