West of Monkhill Station lies the junction of the main line to Wakefield and the Methley branch which was built to give access to Leeds by means of the North Midland (later Midland) Railway. This view shows the junction as viewed from the end of the up platform in 1956. The train featured is the 2pm Wakefield-Goole hauled by a Normanton-based engine: LMS Class 4F No 44458.
