Pontefract Monkhill Station

This shows a view taken in the goods yard alongside the goods shed (on the left) and looking east. This particular photograph was taken one Saturday afternoon when work had stopped for the weekend but there is plenty of evidence of a busy goods yard in the number of wagons and containers on view. The electric crane used for loading and unloading containers on or from wagons was quite a large one and the cylindrical concrete base can still be seen although little else remains. Peter Cookson.
