Cookson Railway Photography Pontefract Steam in the Snow
The
combination of snow and condensing steam at low temperatures could make
steam train photography difficult and it is evident in this photograph
of the 1.45pm Goole - Leeds train pulling away from Pontefract Monkhill
Station in about 1957. Much of the side of the Fowler 2-6-4-T No. 42311
is obscured by steam leakage from the cylinders. The picture shows some
detail of the swan-necked gas lamps which illuminated the platforms at
the time. Peter
Cookson.
