Pontefract Steam in the Snow

This photograph was taken from the line side opposite what was then Oxclose Farm but which is now the Carleton Glen estate. The subject is a northbound football excursion from Birmingham to Middlesborough which passed through Pontefract non-stop. Such extra trains as this normally carried a tablet number of the front of the locomotive for identification purposes and this is M945. The locomotive is an L.M.S. Class 5 4-6-0 No. 45186.  Peter Cookson.
