ADD YOUR FAMILY HISTORY TO OUR GENEALOGY DATABASE

It is perhaps one of the biggest projects we have ever undertaken but you can now add your own family history research to the Digest Magazine database of local family history records.  Imagine a database of many thousands of local people freely accessible twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and all from the comfort of your own home. It won't happen overnight of course, but with your help we can begin compiling what should prove to be an invaluable online resource.

My own experience of genealogy software is rather limited and my experience of a website based software program that a large group of users can utilise together is zero, but the initial signs are extremely promising.  There is a lot to learn and fully understand but I would urge you all to take a look and let me know what you think.

The database is available on the Digest Magazine website, simply because the format of that site lends itself better to the use of databases without any additional financial expense.  You can access the records without the need to register but you wont be able to add to or edit any information until you are a registered user.  Send me your thoughts and tell me what you can offer; which families of your own you would like to be associated with. You can only be assigned to one tree (or one branch of a tree) and you will only be able to add to or edit that particular branch, although you will still be able to assist other people by suggesting additions or amendments to their records.

The database itself can accommodate an unlimited number of individual records and we do have a number of records available already that could be included.  Those of you with previous experience of GEDCOM will know more than I do but the program will allow you to upload (and download) a GEDCOM file, add photographs and many other types of records.

Unfortunately it seems that everything I do requires either reader or visitor support and at times past response has been very disappointing. I truly hope that our Family History database will prove of great value, enable you to meet people with similar interests and offer something of a community environment that you can all be proud to be associated with.
