SCHOOL TRAVEL PLAN
ROAD SAFETY EDUCATION
From the WMDC Press and Communications Office
Schools
have been looking at how to develop travel plans and their road safety
education programme.
Wakefield
Council's Travel Awareness Team hosted a Travel Planning and Road Safety
Conference where Headteachers, Governors and other partners involved in the
Plans in the District took part.
The
Government hopes every school will have a Travel Plan in place by 2010.
The
conference provided the chance to look at the full range of resources and
support available to schools in relation to the plan. Road Safety Officers
have been working in schools for many years promoting pedestrian skills and
cycling training.
Primary
school pupils who hold the role of Road Safety promoters across the district
presented their work, and talked about how they help Wakefield Council's
Travel Awareness Team promote road safety in schools.
As
well as working with schools to encourage them to start writing a Travel
Plan, the Team's services were also represented at the conference - these
include Healthy Transport, Road Safety Team, School Crossing Patrols and
School Travel Planning.
