SOUNDTRACK OF YOUR LIFE
WORKSHOPS WITH MUSIC THEME
From the WMDC Press and Communications Office
Workshops
with a music theme have been organised for young people in Featherstone over
the Easter holidays.
Tom
Stewart, a music producer from Leeds, will be working with young people to
complete various pieces of music and will work with a new band to practice
and record their work.
Young
people who have been working on a dance project since May and have already
received a Young People's Service award, will progress their work with dance
tutor Shara Meek.
And
youngsters and other members of the Featherstone community will also be
invited to make an exhibition of themselves. An exhibition of what music
means to people and the role it plays in their life is planned for the Mini
Museum in Featherstone Library and anyone can contribute to the items that
will be on display.
Erica
Ramsay, Outreach Curator for Wakefield Council, said: "The sort of
things people could bring along include their first album or single, tickets
from a gig they really enjoyed or a wristband or security pass from a
festival. We'd love to hear their stories about how music has played a part
in their lives.
"One
thing that we're still looking for is an old eight track cassette - so if
anyone has one, please bring it along to Chesneys Young People's Centre."
Workshops
are being held at Chesneys between 10.30am and 3pm on Tuesday and Wednesday
April 18 and 19.
Erica
will also be providing various artefacts relating to music from Wakefield's
museum collections for the young people and members of the local community
to study and select for display in Featherstone Library from June to
September.
She
added: "Mini Museums give people opportunities to see and learn about
the history of the area and the people that live here, and to tell us what
they know about the objects in the exhibitions."
