VOTING FOR UK YOUTH PARLIAMENT STARTED
From the WMDC Press and Communications Office
Voting
for this year's UK Youth Parliament has started with more than 26,000 11 to
18-year-olds eligible to take part.
The
2006 election is taking place now by ballot in schools until March 10 and by
text and Internet (www.wakefield.gov.uk) until 4pm on March 17.
The
result will be declared at 7.30pm at the Town Hall, Wakefield on Friday,
March 17 when the two successful candidates will begin their 12 months in
office.
Seventeen
young people have put themselves forward to help young people have a bigger
say in decision making in Wakefield and get their views heard.
It
is hoped all candidates will continue to work with Wakies SHOUT in the
future. Wakies SHOUT is made up of young people across the district to give
them a voice.
Cabinet
Member for Children and Young People Councillor Wayne Jenkins said: "It is
important young people use their vote to ensure their voice is heard. Taking
part in the UK Youth Parliament process means they can get involved in
what's happening in the district and country and make a difference. We
would like to wish all candidates the best of luck and encourage all
eligible young people to vote in the coming week."
