DON'T LOSE YOUR VOTE
- USE THE POST
From the WMDC Press and Communications Office
Voters
are being urged to apply for a postal vote if they think they won't be able
to visit a polling station on May 4.
A
third of Wakefield Council seats are up for election this year but not
everyone will be able to make it to the polling station.
But
anyone who is on the electoral register has another option - a postal vote.
Christine
Mason, Wakefield Council's Electoral Services Manager, said: "Some
people find it difficult to get out to vote. They may be infirm, or have
work commitments or holidays that keep them away but they still want their
chance to have their say on who represents them on the Council.
"That's
where postal votes come into their own - and they are very flexible. People
can apply for just one election, for a set period of time or for a permanent
postal vote - the choice is theirs."
Postal
vote application forms are available from the Electoral Services Office on
01924 305023. Voters have until 5pm on April 18 to return the form to
qualify for a postal vote, but are urged to submit applications as soon as
possible.
Postal
voters will receive their ballot paper one to two weeks before the May 4
elections. If they spoil their paper or it doesn't turn up they can obtain a
replacement paper up until 5pm on election day. However, people who opt for
a postal vote CANNOT vote in person at a polling station.
