YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE A SAY
27 FEBRUARY 2006
From the WMDC Press and Communications Office
Young
people will have a greater say in how the Wakefield Young People's Service
is developed thanks to a new initiative being introduced by Wakefield
Council this week.
A
new Management Board will hold its first meeting on Tuesday February 28 at
Lightwaves Leisure Centre, Wakefield.
The
new Board consists of 12 adults and 12 young people who have been recruited
from across the District to be the first to represent the 8,000 13 to
19-year-olds who use the Young People's Service every year.
They
will meet with six Councillors, three employees from the service and three
representatives from the Voluntary and Community sector.
Cabinet
Member for Children and Young People Wayne Jenkins, who will chair the
Board, said: "I have already met with the young people and this
promises to be a lively meeting. This is another key initiative the Council
is taking to ensure that the views of young people are heard and responded
to. It is important that the Young People's Service is seen to take a
lead in this area and I am delighted that the young people have shown a
willingness to take on this responsibility - I am confident we will begin to
see some significant changes in the way the Service operates in the
future."
Wakefield
Council is leading the way when it comes to young people's involvement and
this initiative is a further way of engaging more young people in the
process.
