NEW COUNTRYSIDE AND CONSERVATION EVENTS PROGRAMME
From the WMDC Press and Communications Office
An
action-packed countryside events programme is being launched by Wakefield
Council.
More
than 50 conservation and countryside activities suitable for all the family
will be organised across the district for the next year.
Andy
Nicholls, Wakefield Countryside and Conservation Manager, Wakefield Council,
said: "The new programme has something for everyone from herbal, fungi,
bat and family welly walks to a junior angling day, craft sessions, painting
landscapes, pond dipping, quizzes and bike rides."
Mr
Nicholls added: "It raises an awareness of the countryside and
conservation issues by getting people involved in fun activities and
practical tasks to help them enjoy the countryside and its wildlife. These
are at favourite locations as well as some less well known sites."
The
programme, running from April 2006 until March 2007, kicks off with Easter
egg decorating at Newmillerdam Boathouse, Newmillerdam Country Park, on
April 16th and 17th between 1.15pm and 3pm.
All
the events are free and are accessible by public transport. You don't need
to be an expert to join in.
Activities
are running during the school holidays. Children must be accompanied by
adults at all events.
Wakefield's
Countryside and Conservation Service manages country parks, nature reserves,
commons, woodlands and other smaller wildlife areas. It offers an
opportunity for everyone to enjoy nature.
