Discover daily life in Edwardian Wakefield in a special online exhibition.
The exhibition is available on the Wakefield Council website, and explores the lifestyles of Wakefield people 100 years ago.
Find out what their homes looked like, what they wore, what expectations they had, and the changes that were taking place around them as the city grew.
John Whitaker, Senior Cultural Officer and curator of the exhibition, says: "We are very excited about this exhibition. It is a chance to use the Internet to explore Edwardian Wakefield, using wonderful images from our fantastic collections."
The Edwardians were influenced by arts and crafts, art nouveau, Sheraton, Lalique and Tiffany, and there were plenty of books offering decorating advice.
The exhibition uses home guidance books from 1905 to give advice on subjects from furnishing your home and managing your servants, to how to throw a dinner party.
The exhibition also looks at school life. John Whitaker added: "Back then it was all about learning for work, not learning to learn. In 1905 most children had left school and started work by the age of 14."
