A
Special Event at Wakefield Art Gallery
Thursday June 15
12.30 to 1.30pm
Free
Visitors to Wakefield Art Gallery will get the chance to meet artist Peter Griffin when he gives an informal talk about his paintings, career and memories of the District.
The gallery's current exhibition is Peter's 'Bringing It All Back Home - recent Paintings'.
Peter will also visit Wakefield College on June 15 to meet students on the Arts Foundation Course.
The artist was born in 1947 in Wakefield and acquired his first formal art training on the same course at Wakefield College during the mid 1960s.
Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Sport Cllr Denise Jeffery said: "Peter Griffin is one of the most successful and critically acclaimed modern painters working in this country and we are pleased he is showing his work in Wakefield. He now lives and works in London and shows his work all over the world so this is the ideal opportunity to give young local artists a chance to talk to him about his experiences as a professional artist working today. I'm sure the students will find this experience invaluable."
After leaving Wakefield College the artist went on to study at the Royal College of Art in London. He has had many solo exhibitions in major galleries and museums, but this is the first time he has exhibited in the city of his birth. The exhibition is running until July 9, 2006
